Let's Have Some April Fool's Fun in the Kitchen!

This April Fool's Day fun project is just as much fun to make as it is to eat! These cute flowerpot cakes are fun for the whole family. This and other family-fun ideas are just waiting for you on http://www.momsmealconnection.com/. Are you ready to make some 'dirt'?

www.foundationtv.co.uk/f-tips/flowerpotcookery.html has a really cute project for Flowerpot Cakes. The recipe below is an easier version. Tell us what you think.

Flowerpot Cakes

Ingredients:
Aluminum foil
6 6-oz capacity terracotta flower pots thoroughly washed and dried (they must be unglazed, untreated terracotta!)
Cake:
1 lb. pkg Oreo cookies
1 box chocolate cake mix (prepare batter as directed on box)
Dark chocolate icing
Flowers:
18 - 24 lollipops with firm sticks, assorted colors
Small package of gum drops cut into 1/4 - 1/2" slices for petals
Simple icing (confectioners sugar with water added to form paste)
Bows, gummy worms, or other decorations as desired

Directions:
Line bottom of pots with aluminum foil.
Lightly grease inside of pots.
Cake:
Prepare batter as directed on cake mix box.
Pour batter into pots. Do not fill to top of pot. Bake according to cake mix box directions.
Process Oreo cookies in food processor to resemble dirt.
After cakes are cool, apply a small layer of chocolate icing on top. Sprinkle cookie crumbs on top of icing to make 'dirt'.
Flowers:
Make flowers by putting a ring of simple icing around edge of lollipop and applying cut gum drop petals to lollipop. Turn lollipop over and add 'faces' to flowers using simple icing. Place flowers in pots. Add bows, gummy worms, or other decorations as desired.

Another option is to make cookie flowers using sugar cookie dough; you can decorate the cookies to fit your mood. Push a toothpick or small skewer into the cookie prior to baking to use as a pick to push cookie flower into the 'dirt'.

Have a great making and eating these flowers. You really can have your flowers and eat them too!
